About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Brampton, Ontario.
This role serves as a technical bridge between Commercial and Manufacturing Engineering, taking customer RFQs from initial review through the development of a complete manufacturing concept. This includes process flow, cell layout, tooling and capital equipment requirements, cycle times, capacity analysis, and cost estimates.
The successful candidate will also lead continuous improvement initiatives across our manufacturing locations, helping standardize best practices and deliver measurable improvements in cost, throughput, quality, and operational efficiency.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in applications engineering, automation integration, equipment building, or advanced manufacturing who wants to take ownership of manufacturing solutions from quote through production.
Key Resonsibilities
- Review customer RFQ packages, including part drawings, CAD data, GD&T, production volumes, and customer specifications to assess manufacturing feasibility and risk.
- Develop detailed cost estimates covering capital equipment, tooling, fixtures, automation, labour, floor space, and overhead.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from tooling suppliers, automation integrators, and equipment manufacturers.
- Support technical quote reviews and pricing discussions with Commercial and Finance teams.
- Define capital requirements for new programs, including presses, robotic welding cells, conveyors, vision systems, end-of-arm tooling, and error-proofing solutions.
- Develop tooling and equipment specifications and review supplier concepts, layouts, and designs.
- Conduct cycle time studies and line balancing for manual, semi-automated, and fully automated manufacturing processes.
- Perform robot reach and timing simulations using tools such as Process Simulate or RoboGuide, where required.
- Validate manufacturing capacity based on customer volumes, OEE targets, and shift patterns.
- Develop process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, manufacturing layouts, and overall manufacturing concepts.
- Determine the appropriate level of automation based on production volume, investment, quality, and flexibility requirements.
- Provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) input during early program development.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on OEE, cycle time, scrap reduction, changeover time, labour productivity, and capital utilization.
- Facilitate kaizen events, value stream mapping, and structured problem-solving using methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, and DMAIC.
- Benchmark processes and performance across manufacturing locations and support the implementation of best practices and standardized work.
- Develop business cases and capital justifications for improvement projects and track resulting savings.
- Present technical manufacturing concepts to automotive OEM and Tier 1 customers.
- Work cross-functionally with Program Management, Quality, Operations, Finance, Manufacturing Engineering, and plant leadership.
Qualifications
Required:- Degree or diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in applications engineering, advanced manufacturing, or process engineering within an automation integrator, equipment builder, or Tier 1 automotive supplier.
- Proven experience estimating automated manufacturing systems such as robotic welding, assembly, material handling, or stamping systems.
- Strong experience with cycle time analysis and line balancing.
- Demonstrated experience leading continuous improvement projects with measurable results, ideally across multiple manufacturing locations.
- Strong working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies, including VSM, SMED, 5S, Standard Work, and TPM.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or similar, as well as AutoCAD for manufacturing layouts.
- Advanced Excel skills for cost modelling, analysis, and savings tracking.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work directly with customers and influence cross-functional plant teams.
Preferred:
- Previous experience within an automotive automation integrator, equipment builder, or similar environment.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Knowledge of resistance welding, MIG welding, joining processes, robotics, PLCs, and industrial safety standards.
- Experience with FANUC, ABB, or KUKA robotics.
- Robot simulation experience.
- Familiarity with automotive APQP and PPAP processes.
- Knowledge of CSA Z432 and ISO 10218.
- P.Eng. or EIT designation is considered an asset.
You will help ensure quoted costs and cycle times are achievable, capital and tooling requirements are well defined, and program handoffs are clear and effective.
You will also play a key role in identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities across our manufacturing network, delivering measurable improvements in OEE, cycle time, scrap, productivity, and manufacturing cost.
