ROLE SUMMARY
We are looking for a hands-on Access Control Prefabrication & Commissioning Technician to build, configure, test, and prepare prefabricated electronic security and access-control panels.
This role combines precision panel assembly and low-voltage wiring with controller configuration, networking, firmware updates, access-control programming, functional testing, and quality assurance.
The successful candidate will take ownership of panels from drawings and material staging through physical assembly, configuration, testing, documentation, labeling, and final packout.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assemble and prefabricate electronic security and access-control panels and enclosures.
- Lay out and mount power supplies, distribution modules, access-control controllers, interface boards, terminal blocks, and related components.
- Wire, terminate, route, dress, and label low-voltage conductors.
- Work from panel layouts, wiring diagrams, bills of material, and door schedules.
- Configure controller IP addresses and network settings.
- Record controller serial numbers, MAC addresses, firmware versions, and assigned IP addresses.
- Perform controller and device firmware updates.
- Enroll and configure controllers, readers, doors, and I/O within Genetec Synergis or comparable access-control platforms.
- Bench-test readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, lock relays, supervised inputs, power, and network connectivity.
- Troubleshoot wiring, power, communication, controller, and configuration issues.
- Complete build documentation, QA checklists, permanent labeling, and panel records.
- Prepare completed panels for shipment in the required installation sequence.
- Maintain consistent workmanship and quality standards across multiple panel builds.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Hands-on experience in electronic security, access control, low-voltage systems, electronics assembly, panel wiring, or a comparable technical environment.
- Ability to read electrical/electronic drawings, schematics, and point-to-point wiring diagrams.
- Strong hands-on wiring, termination, crimping, labeling, and panel-assembly skills.
- Understanding of DC power, polarity, relays, inputs, outputs, and basic electronic troubleshooting.
- Experience using hand tools and electrical test equipment such as a multimeter.
- Basic Ethernet networking knowledge, including static IP addressing.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to clean, consistent workmanship.
- Ability to accurately complete technical documentation and QA records.
- Ability to work independently while following established build and quality standards.
PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience with Genetec Security Center, Synergis, DMP, DSC or equivalent.
- Experience with Mercury/HID access-control controllers, including LP, EP, MP, MR, or similar hardware.
- Experience with LifeSafety Power or comparable access-control power supplies and enclosures.
- Experience with access-control devices including readers, electric locks, door contacts, REX devices, relays, and supervised inputs.
- Familiarity with OSDP and Wiegand reader technologies.
- Experience working with servers, SAN, OS, VMS, ACS software.
- Experience performing controller firmware updates and device enrollment.
- Genetec, CANASA, or other relevant manufacturer technical certification.
- Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technician, or related technical education.
Equivalent hands-on industry experience will be considered in place of formal certification. Shortlisted candidates will need to demonstrate builds in the lab before final decision.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys hands-on technical work and takes pride in building clean, organized, and repeatable panels, servers, security systems, etc. They should be equally comfortable working with tools and wiring as they are connecting a laptop, configuring a controller, troubleshooting communications, and completing final QA.
Interested in strong access-control technicians, electronic security technicians, panel builders, wire persons, or electronics technicians who have the right fundamentals and can be trained on our specific platforms and processes.
